Lots of post-apocalyptic games revealed at E3 2013

The big news of E3 was obviously the struggle between the PS4 and the Xbox One. That’s not really of interest to us here at ICoS unless that struggle leads to the destruction of all we know and love. Instead, I’ve found information on post-apocalyptic games of interest revealed at this years E3.  It’s looking like a good couple of years for the apocalypse.

Check under the cut for videos

Release date – TBA. Available on Xbox360, Playstation 3, Xbox One and Playstation 4

Developed by Bungie, this post-apocalyptic future game features ‘a compelling story-line’, the ability to create your own character, competitive multi-player and a wide-open world. You’ll see from the following videos that this was a common theme at E3 2013.

Our civilization once spanned the solar system. Its ruins are still out there: buried in the dunes of Mars, hidden in the jungles of Venus, lost in a wild and abandoned Earth. For centuries we’ve huddled under the safety of the Traveler, protected from our enemies. Now, a new era has begun, and the only hope for our future lies in unlocking the greatest mysteries of our past.

Defend the last safe City on Earth. Defeat our enemies. Explore the ancient ruins of our solar system. Discover all that we have lost. Become legend.

Potentially very exciting. We’ll keep you informed.

Mad Max

Release date: 2014. Available on XBox360, XBoxOne, Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and PC.

No gameplay or story information at present, but rumoured to be an open-world tie-in to the new Mad Max: Fury Road film that will be in cinemas next year. Despite the perceived low quality of tie-in games, we reserve judgement till we see some gameplay. As it’s a Mad Max game, expect lots of driving and the ability to customise your vehicle.

Halo 5

Release date: 2014. Exclusive to the Xbox One.

New Halo games are always very popular, and the reveal of this at E3 led to applause and cheering.  While gameplay is yet to be released I can’t imagine that’ll stop some of you from preordering your console and the game itself.

The Division

Release date: 2014. XBox One and PS4. Ubisoft.

A devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City, and one by one, basic services fail. In only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, a classified unit of self-supported tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, The Division agents are trained to operate independently of command, as all else fails.

Fighting to prevent the fall of society, the agents will find themselves caught up in an epic conspiracy, forced to combat not only the effects of a manmade virus, but also the rising threat of those behind it. When everything collapses, your mission begins.

Dead Rising 3

Release date: November. Exclusive to the XBox One

The latest in the succesful zombie-slaughtering franchise, Dead Rising 3 is an open-world undead-murder sim with a new focus on driving sections. You can forge your own weapons in increasingly ridiculous combinations. Storyline doesn’t really matter in a game like this, where it honestly is just an excuse to hit zombies with a chainsaw.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days

Released: July. Available on PSN, XBLA, PC, iOS and Mac.

The award-winning game is now getting DLC, for those of you who couldn’t get enough

Dying Light

Released in 2014. Available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC.
From the people who brought you Dead Island, this first-person zombie apocalypse survival horror promises a great deal, including a variety of enemies, a tropical-city open world to explore, and tons of bloody zombie action. But will it perform? Many people were disappointed with Dead Island. We’ll see whether Dying Light will come out swinging or not.

Sadly, despite much speculation, Bethesda did not announce Fallout 4 at this E3.

What are you excited for? What will you spend your hard-earned pennies on? And what did you think of the games announced at E3?

  1. There is one game I saw in development not long ago that I can’t seem to find information about anywhere! I’m sure it has yet to release, and may not even have a 2014 release date. It had a super solid website that gave an outline of the characters (4 total I believe) one being a young girl. No I’m talking about TWD or TLOU. It too is based in a post apocalyptic world where a zombie outbreak occurred, or something similar at least. Does anyone have ANY information as to what it may be. After having zero results turn up in my search, maybe someone can give me a name!!
